Harcourt is committed to publishing flexible catechetical resources that reflect the vision of comprehensive Catholic youth ministry and the catechetical directives of the church. Several trends are emerging:

  • More professional youth ministry coordinators are being given responsibility for systematic, intentional adolescent catechesis, including confirmation preparation. Some full-time youth ministers also serve as the parish DRE.
  • There is renewed interest among youth ministers for flexible, intensive formats for adolescent catechesis.
  • There is increased conversation about the church’s approach to adolescent faith formation, largely due to the National Study of Youth and Religion.

Harcourt’s latest efforts to serve the catechetical dimension of youth ministry include:

  1. Call to Faith Junior High thematic texts: Seven booklets that can be used in a variety of formats. Harcourt collaborated with the Center for Ministry Development to develop the Coordinator’s Manual, which can be used to build a comprehensive young adolescent ministry around Call to Faith.
  2. Call to Celebrate Confirmation: Age-appropriate preparation with separate resources for younger and older adolescents.
  3. Real Faith TV: A DVD series about the real-life experiences of young people and how these connect to their faith. The series was developed in collaboration with the Diocese of Trenton.
