Region 1 News
Region 1 has overnight meetings three times a year. Its structure includes diocesan directors, the Youth Ministers’ Council (two coordinators of youth ministry—CYMs—from each diocese), and the Youth Council (two high school youth from each diocese). CYMs meet for support and resourcing, to explore the state of parish youth ministry throughout New England, and to give input for the region’s biennial adult and youth conference.
The Youth Council meets to voice the concerns of youth, to grow in their leadership abilities, and to prepare and lead the biennial New England Catholic Youth Conference. This will be held March 2-4, 2007, at the Sheraton Hotel in Nashua, New Hampshire, featuring APeX Ministries. Between 750 and 900 youth and adults are expected to attend.
There is more multi-cultural representation in Region 1. The region meets on weekdays, making it difficult for most youth ministry leaders from ethnic/cultural groups to attend as most are volunteers. So the region is exploring different days to meet to make our meetings more accessible to all. Region 1 is dealing with much transition. Staffing changes have occurred in the Bridgeport and Fall River dioceses and the Archdiocese of Boston.
