World Youth Day Notes from the USCCB
World Youth Day “Days in the Dioceses"—August 11-15, 2005; and WYD Events—August 16-21, 2005 will be held in Cologne, Germany, for young adults and youth ages 16-30 .
Days in the Dioceses
This pre-week experience provides pilgrims with a chance to join with people from a particular diocese in Germany and their guests from all over the world in smaller settings than WYD itself. Every German diocese, with the exception of Cologne, will host pilgrims for these days with social activities, prayer experiences, and service opportunities. They are eager to extend their hospitality to the young people of the world .
Registration
As of this submission, registration costs had not yet been finalized. Registration
will begin in July 2004 and will be done on-line through the German website
at www.wyd2005.org.
Volunteer Opportunities
Short-term volunteer opportunities will be for 7-31 days August 1-31, 2005. Applications for the short-term positions will take place on-line on the German website beginning July 2004 .
Youth Festival
Events for the youth festival can be anything like a concert, a prayer service, a discussion group, and lots of other ideas that are too numerous to list here. All events are published in the pilgrim guide that is given to each pilgrim attending WYD. If you are interested in coordinating a Youth Festival event, proposal forms will be available on-line on the German website beginning July 2004.
Home Missions Scholarships
Scholarships for pilgrims from Home Missions dioceses will be available again this year. Due to the generosity of those who contribute to the Home Missions collection in their parishes, the Committee on Home Missions has set aside $200,000 specifically for WYD scholarships. Information has been sent to the bishops and diocesan youth/young adult contacts of these dioceses. It can also be found on the USCCB WYD website at www.wydusa.org.
