Australians Hope to Harness WYD Energy
Submitted by Karen Lunney

There is an event going on July 15-20 in Sydney, Australia, that is keeping most diocesan youth ministry coordinators in Australia a bit busy. But ANDYMC, the Australian Network of Diocesan Youth Ministry Coordinators, is looking beyond World Youth Day and the visit of Pope Benedict XVI. The network is asking: “What’s next?”

AustraliaANDYMC is trying to learn from the Denver experience of WYD in 1993. They want to prepare for and harness the energy from the expected explosion of youth ministry in Australia after WYD 2008.

Among ANDYMC’s upcoming projects are a national gathering, a national song competition, the development of competency-based standards for youth ministry, and work with the Australian Bishops Commission on Pastoral Life to develop a national youth ministry vision statement.

ANDYMC is a network of member dioceses which fosters the development of Catholic youth ministry in Australia.
