The National Association of Pastoral Musicians welcomes and forms young music ministers through its Youth Section. We recently launched our youth website. A blog will begin within one year for networking and support among youth who lead music in their communities.

Youth highlights at our 2007 national convention included a performance by the National Catholic Youth Choir, concert performances by young adult artists, and breakout sessions for youth.

NPM continues to commit money to develop pastoral music leadership among youth. It will award $32,000 in scholarships in 2008.

NPM seeks to provide greater formation to young adults who are considering pastoral music as a vocation. Topics at future conventions will include:

  • discerning to serve as a professional music minister
  • collaboration between youth and adults
  • bridging differences between age groups
  • guidance for young adult composers
  • leadership skills

We also seek to integrate youth fully into our conventions by welcoming their unique gifts and providing them with hands-on experience. NPM also hopes to work more closely with NFCYM, sharing mutual wisdom and experience.
