Membership Managment Committee Explores Role of Collaborating Members
Great minds think alike. So it went in Colorado Springs in January as the Membership Management Committee discussed the role of collaborating members (CMs) within NFCYM. At the same time, the CMs were discerning a new representative to the NFCYM board and in the process surfaced many similar concerns about their role.
It is hoped that with the help of the new board representative, Leigh Sterten of Ministry Training Source, the issues, concerns, potential and talent of CMs will be given their due spotlight. Many diocesan staff and CMs are unclear about the role of CMs. There also is confusion about criteria for prospective CMs and expectations for existing CMs. Are bylaws interpreted strictly or loosely?
There is a need to explore what diocesan staff and the growing number of CMs expect from each other. NFCYM’s board has created a task group to study this, and the topic will be addressed during a general session at the 2008 Membership Meeting in Little Rock.
One thing is clear: collaborating members give us wisdom, vision, conviction, and experience. We must ensure that they are welcomed, understood, and utilized.
