Board Springs toward Action on Strategic Plan
The NFCYM Board of Directors met in May for its annual spring meeting. We began by praying that we will continue to explore ways to more faithfully follow Christ and lead those entrusted to us into deeper connections with our church.
The board spent significant time and energy exploring important issues in our organizational structure that can enhance our effectiveness in serving those who serve the young church. This work will continue through the next two board meetings. The board hopes to present direction for the work of the membership as we implement the strategic plan approved last year.
Several important decisions were made at this spring meeting. These include:
- Discernment of Paul Mach of the Diocese of Joliet as First Vice-Chair and Michelle Maher of the Diocese of Colorado Springs as Secretary-Treasurer. They will serve two years on the executive committee.
- Approval of Kansas City, Missouri, as the site of NCYC 2009 and Indianapolis for NCYC 2011.
- Renewal of Bob McCarty’s contract for the next two years. We celebrate with Bob as he completes ten years as NFCYM’s executive director this summer.
During the past decade, NFCYM has reached some significant milestones. We established two service centers, the National Association for Catholic Youth Ministry Leaders and the National Center for Catholic Youth Sports. These organizations expand our outreach and capacity to serve those who serve the young church. Attendance at NCYC and NCCYM continues to grow, and this demonstrates a healthy regard for youth ministry in our church today.
We continue to ask God’s blessing as we work to meet the challenges of the future!
