Region 6 Heading to Sidney (Ohio, that Is!)
Region 6 will host an alternative World Youth Day event in Sidney, Ohio. It will recreate the vigil experience and include a simulcast of the Papal Mass. Mike Patin will be the keynote speaker, and music will be provided by Who Do You Say I Am? The event also will include catechetical breakout sessions. The parish communities of Auglaize and Mercer Counties in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati will host the gathering. Cindee Case of Youngstown convenes the planning committee.
The dioceses of Michigan are exploring the feasibility of preparing parish youth ministry leaders to serve Hispanic youth and young adults by co-hosting a leadership formation program facilitated by Instituto Fe Y Vida. This project emerged as a follow-up to the region’s experience of the Encuentro process. The shifting demographics in Michigan make clear the need for leadership formation to respond to rapid population growth. In Michigan, it has been projected that in the future 50 percent of people under age 30 will be bilingual or Spanish-only speakers.
Region 6 discerned Sean Reynolds, director of the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, to serve as its external representative.
