'Round the Regions

Region 2 News

Region 2 gathered two hundred adult youth ministry leaders from across the state for the third biennial Challenged to Grow Conference in Binghampton, New York, March 26-28, 2004. The keynote presenters Joe Grant and Kim and Reggie Harris explored the conference theme Sowing the Seeds of Social Justice and how we as youth ministers call our young people to lives of service and justice. The weekend included three rounds of workshops and time for networking and renewal.

NFCYM Region Map of the U.S.Rochester is riding the wave of a new trilogy . . . The Rock, The River, and The Flame. In response to an overwhelming need for junior high or middle school retreat experiences, Rochester has initiated these three one-day retreat adventures. The Rock is about belonging, The River about changes, The Flame about relationships each drawing from young adolescent developmental needs and connecting them to faith and Catholic identity. At our Region 2 spring meeting we celebrated the life and ministry of Mary Harrison, director of youth ministry in Albany and wished her many blessings in her retirement starting in July. We applaud Mary for her outstanding service to her diocese, Region 2, NFCYM, and most of all for her service to young people. Thank you Mary! You will be missed but not forgotten. We know your contribution to youth ministry has changed—not ended—and you will be busier in retirement than you are in your position!
