Answer the Call of Boy Scouting
Consider this article in NYCFM Connections as your call to be a participant in the 2005 National Catholic Committee on Scouting Course at Philmont Scout Ranch, Cimarron, New Mexico.
This course will challenge and help you minister in the programs of the Boy Scouts of America within the context of youth ministry. We know the dates make participation challenging as they coincide with the dates of WYD in Cologne, Germany. However, we ask you to answer this call and come to Philmont Training Center for a great mountaintop experience. Hear the call. Commit and make your travel plans today to arrive at the ranch on Sunday, August 7, 2005, and leave on Saturday, August 13, 2005.
The course is designed to help you understand, participate, and share in the mission and programs of the National Catholic Committee on Scouting as you minister to the youth and adults you serve in youth ministry through Scouting.
After last year’s successful start, the National Catholic Committee on Scouting is continuing the process of finalizing the revised course. This year the goal is to assure we can replicate the success of 2004 and look for ways to make it even better!
Our course, Scouting in the Catholic Church, continues as it was chosen for repositioning the program to meet the needs of all who labor in the field of youth ministry through Scouting. Laity, clergy, religious, youth ministers, vocation directors, diocesan youth ministry directors, CYO directors, pastors, bishops—all who seek to better understand and serve our youth through Scouting are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
The overarching theme of the course is to share the vision that Scouting is youth ministry in our church as well as share ways to better grow and deliver the message, “Scouting is youth ministry!” Come prepared to learn and share some of the tools of this important work as well as have a good time doing it!
If you have never been to Philmont—this is the year! Getting to Philmont requires a significant commitment and planning. Start today! May we suggest you start by visiting our website to get all the details about attending a Philmont conference. Philmont is truly God's Country! The Philmont Training Center is family centered. While you are hard at work, the ranch provides programs for the family.
Space is limited. Be a part of this select group who answer the call to Philmont this summer by asking your council or diocese how you can participate in a Philmont Training Course. Invitations to apply are also available from Barb Nestel, at the NCCS National Office. Join us as we sing to the mountains of Philmont this summer from August 7-13!
