New from USCCB Publishing!
The long-awaited National Directory for Catechesis (NDC) and related products will be available on May 1 from USCCB Publishing. With the NDC, the bishops reaffirm their vision of adolescent catechesis as part of a comprehensive program of pastoral ministry for young people. The NDC is the primary resource and reference for catechesis in the United States. It is divided into ten chapters that delve into catechesis and diversity, evangelization, the faith of the church, methodology, worship and sacraments, moral formation, the settings for catechesis, those who catechize, catechetical ministry, and resources.
Along with the NDC, there are three complementary resources. The Leader’s Guide to the National Directory for Catechesis provides diocesan and parish leaders with workshop materials to present the NDC to others. The leader’s guide consists of a book and a CD with PowerPoint presentations plus detailed text to support the slides. The printed guide includes (1) easy-to-follow instructions on giving a workshop on the NDC, (2) an outline of the purpose, audience, timeframe, and outcomes for each of the eight workshops and two presentations, and (3) the detailed text version of one of the two presentations, the synopsis of the NDC. The Summary of the National Directory for Catechesis highlights the concepts and directives of each of the ten chapters of the National Directory for Catechesis in clear, concise language. Catechetical leaders will want to give the Summary to volunteers, parish staff, and parish committee members to help them understand the NDC. The National Directory for Catechesis Bulletin Insert condenses the essential contents of the NDC into a bulletin insert format that can be distributed to everyone in the parish community, especially parents who have a particular role in the catechetical life of their children.
All of these resources are available from USCCB Publishing. Further information can be found at the USCCB Publishing website.
