Region 11 News
New Representative
Region 11 is excited to announce our next representative to the NFCYM Board of Directors. Yvette Espinoza of the Diocese of Oakland will begin representing the region at the summer board meeting. Yvette has served the Diocese of Oakland for many years and brings an awareness of multicultural issues, a solid foundation of ministry, and a great sense of humor with her to this position. Yvette was affirmed at our fall regional meeting. Grace Cassetta, also from the Diocese of Oakland, will continue to serve as the region’s internal coordinator. Region 11 is sad to report that Adolfo Mercado is no longer working with youth ministry and young adults in the Diocese of Sacramento. The region wishes Adolfo the best in his new endeavors and thanks him for his great work in that diocese.

LA Congress
Many people in the region attended the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress and Youth Day held February 17-20. Over 14,000 high school students and chaperones were part of Youth Day and 24,000 people attended Congress. Youth Day was blessed with the talents of Jesse Manibusan, Mark Hart, Anna Scally, Carole Goodwin, APeX Ministries, Frank Mercadante and many others. Even the rain that has persisted in southern California for the past few months could not dampen the spirits of the weekend. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles thanks all of those in Region 11 who support this weekend.
In Appreciation
Region 11 would also like to thank Stan Cordero (Diocese of Santa Rosa) and Kathy Cottom (Diocese of Oakland) for their continued great work as management committee chairs for NFCYM. Kathy is the chair of the NCCGSCF Management Committee and Stan chairs the Youth Events Management Committee. The annual meeting for Region 11 is scheduled for September 27-30 at Serra Retreat Center in Malibu, California. Please send any potential agenda items for that meeting to Grace Cassetta in Oakland.
