Family as Church
Let's face it, it can be difficult to focus on living a "holy family life" when you are stuck in traffic, late picking up the kids from basketball practice, and wondering what you can prepare for dinner.
So what does it really mean to be a "Domestic Church" as a family?
The following documents will hopefully provide some inspiration and encouragement for busy families.
- In 1994 Pope John Paul II wrote a Letter to Families, encouraging parents to create a “civilization of love” in their families. The letter is written to families (as opposed to priests and bishops) and addresses marriage, motherhood and fatherhood, children, prayer, education and the family in society. It is fairly readable and can be found on the Vatican web site. Other language translations.
- On the Role of the Christian Family in the Modern World (Familiaris Consortio) was written by Pope John Paul II in 1981. Here he talks about the beauty of marriage and the unique role the family has in modern society. Perhaps a bit more dense than his Letter to Families, but still readable for many people.
