Welcoming the Revised Roman Missal

Focus on...the Revised Roman Missal

Starting the first Sunday of Advent, we will be using the revised Roman Missal. Many publishers and websites have developed fantastic resources to aid in catechizing the community (and adolescents) on the revisions. Here is just a sampling of some of the resources on the web.

  • There is nothing better than a well-informed catechist! Share these resources with your team. Discuss the changes.
  • The Archdiocese of Washington’s flow for its eLearning sessions is a great model for developing a sessions with your young people.
    • Understanding the liturgical reform of Vatican II
    • General principles of liturgy
    • History of the Roman Missal
    • How we translate
    • Understanding the new translation
  • Pray the changes together. For example, take one of the revised acclamations and incorporate it into a prayer service.
  • Finally, DO NOT WAIT until November to start! And don’t stop after Advent. Dr. Catherine Dooley talks about three modes of liturgical catechesis: catechesis in preparation for the liturgy, catechesis that occurs through participation in the liturgy, and continual catechesis that reflects upon the litugical experience. See these changes as an opportunity to walk with your young people through beautiful mystery that is the Mass.
